All of the top 10 golfers are on the course this week, including the likes of Dustin Johnson (+1,600, $10,200), Rory McIlroy (+2200, 9700$), Cameron Black-smith (+2200, 9100$) and Collin Morikawa (+2000, $10,400). Like Farmers’ Insurance a few weeks ago, this week will also have a smaller field at 120 golfers with the top 65 and links making it through to the weekend. The smaller field gives you a better chance of getting your entire DFS roster through the cup, with 23% fewer players on the field than a regular tournament.

Even without water hazards, Riviera CC has been playing hard, ranking in the top 10 in scoring over par for the past few seasons. The fairways are hard to hit, registering almost 7% less success rate than the TOUR average. They are also hard to reach greens, recording around 8% lower green-hit-in-regulation rate than the TOUR average due to the strong undulations that spill into the narrow collection areas. When golfers miss these greens, earning shots around the greens (ARG) becomes more necessary than usual. We’ve seen winners here earn an average of 2.2 ARG shots over the past five years. The par-3 sixth hole is famous for its bunker in the middle of the green, and the par-4 10th hole is arguably the best short par-4 on the TOUR. The novelty eventually wears off with how difficult this course has been over the years, especially on the last eight holes. The closing nine is a factor in why we’ve only seen eight golfers since 2000 win after leading 54 holes.

Like Torrey Pines, Strokes Gained: Approach-the-Green and those who play well Tee-to-Green are golfers we need to consider this week. Also look at players on the list who perform well in par 4 efficiency on holes measuring 450 to 500 yards, with six in that range. For construction of the contrarian roster, the construction lineups will be golfers who have distance Off-The-Tee. Although it’s not a long haul, past winners include Johnson, Bouba Watson (+4,500, $8,500)who has won here three times, and J.B. Holmes. Last season, three golfers who finished in the top 5 in driving distance here also made the top eight in the tournament.

Will Zalatoris (+2,800 up for grabs, $8,800 on DraftKings)

The last time we saw Zalatoris was in a playoff loss at Torrey Pines, where he led the pack (on the south course) in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green (12.4). Last season’s top 15 finish at Riviera CC was the result of great iron play and solid navigation on those poa annua greens, something he should recall rather than his struggles a few weeks ago at San Diego. Zalatoris managed to earn 4.9 strokes on the Riviera greens last season, the highest he had reached in any tournament in his professional career. Zalatoris’ ball striking has been elite, earning shots with his irons in seven consecutive measured events. Former Deamon Deacon performs well on par 4s measuring between 450 and 500 yards, placing fifth in the previous 24 rounds. Scottie Scheffler (+2200, 9200$) got his first win last week, and it’s time for Will this week.

Marc Leishman (+6,000 up for grabs, $7,900 on DraftKings)

Leishman should always be in our sights as someone to field if we’re still on the West Coast. The Aussie is still a threat in California, with a victory at Torrey Pines and two top five finishes here dating back to 2016. Leishman has a knack for playing well on these traditional courses, finishing twice in the top five at Augusta National with a pair of top five at Muirfield Village (Memorial). He’s earned shots with his irons in eight straight Genesis Invitationals and shown he can compete with the best in the world. Leishman ranks 33rd in par-4 efficiency on holes measuring 450 to 500 yards and 15th in par-5 efficiency in the previous 24 rounds.

Si Woo Kim (+9,000 up for grabs, $7,300 on DraftKings)

The three-time winner should feel comfortable this week with the way he plays on the West Coast. A 26th place finish last week, earning 1.63 shots with his irons and 1.91 Off-the-Tee on Sunday and three top 11s in his California events this season (Fortinet Championship, The American Express, Farmers Insurance) are enough to give him one nods this week. A win at the 2021 American Express and a third-place finish at the 2019 Genesis Invitational make him a favorite in this lineup.
