Soo Locks boat tours enter the 2021 season on May 15
SAULT STE. MARY, MICH. – A long boat trip to Soo Locks enters its 62nd year to offer visitors a close-up view of this historic engineering marvel.
The famous Soo Locks Boat Tours have announced that their 2021 season will start on May 15th.
A new 90-minute lock tour aboard the company’s iconic yellow and blue tour boats features a live narration of the history and operation of the Soo Locks, the world’s largest parallel locking system that resolves the 21-foot gap between Lake Huron and Lake Superior.
Passengers will experience an up and down passage on the St. Mary’s River, including close-up views of the construction of the new “super lock” and highlights along the US and Canadian shores.
The company will also be offering special lighthouse cruises on select summer Saturdays, with live narration of the story behind two lighthouses. The four-and-a-half-hour cruise passes both up and down through the Soo Locks and allows for a close-up view of the freighters.
New this year, passengers will be able to purchase advance e-tickets online for specific visiting hours at famoussoolocks.com.
Tour boat company dinner cruises are not offered due to pandemic limitations, but a full drink and snack bar are available on each tour boat.
