POMONA, Calif. (KCAL / KCBS) – A truck driver who stopped a high-speed chase with his large platform said his insurance company would not pay for damage to his vehicle.

The accident that ended the dangerous hours-long chase in California was filmed last month.

“I saw what happened and I made the decision to stop him, because if I had not done so, this person could have killed someone,” said truck driver Ahmed. Shaaban.

Shaaban said if he had to, he would do it again, even though law enforcement said never to get involved.

On April 6, he had followed the savage pursuit.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies were pursuing a driver believed at the time to be a person of interest in a murder investigation.

The driver drove MPs through northern San Diego County, back to the Inland Empire and eventually to Pomona.

This is where Shaaban said he moved his truck in the driver’s path, never thinking they would crash.

“Either way, I know I did the right thing,” Shaaban said. “I don’t regret my decision.”

But because of this move, his insurance company denies his claim for $ 22,000 to repair his truck.

The insurance company did not respond to a request for comment, but in a letter, the company called Shaaban’s actions “deliberate”, saying it “must deny any responsibility for the loss.”

“I’m just a little shocked at the reaction,” Shaaban said.

Right now he’s out of work until his truck is fixed and he can start making deliveries again, and he said the bills were adding up.

“It accumulates me very hard and very quickly,” he said. “I’m kinda stuck here.”

A GoFundMe campaign to help cover expenses Shaaban raised more than $ 88,000.
